Ghost Brackets

WHY? I prefer the solo look on my bike, but often need more carrying capacity. Detachable bags seemed to be the best answer, but I didn't want the expense of hard-side touring bags and I was afraid of the reliability of the Leatherlyke units. I read about a neat little item called Ghost Brackets that could be used with leather bags to make them quick-detachable. I had a really nice set of heavy-duty "throw-over" bags from Carolina Leather Works, so I decided to experiment with them. The Ghost Brackets were hard to find, but I did an online search and located them online at Randy's Cycle in Huntley, Illinois. Their site was fairly easy to navigate, and secure ordering online was a simple process.

SERVICE. Pretty darned good. I did not receive a confirmation e-mail from them, but when I e-mailed to check on the order I received a prompt reply saying that the brackets were in stock and had already shipped. I received them five days from date of order. Packaging was in the original box and all parts were included. The brackets looked to be excellent quality, with powder-coat finish.

INSTALLATION. Instructions were clear and very complete. The job was pretty simple and could be accomplished by anyone with moderate skills and tools. I took my time and was extra careful to align everything before doing any drilling. Installation and mounting of both bags took me less than an hour. All parts were supplied and everything fit well.

RESULTS. Fantastic! This bracket is really an ingenious idea. I can remove or install both bags in about 15 seconds. The bags are supported well, and leave no unsightly support brackets when they are removed. I believe that they are a bit too expensive, but they are well-engineered and work like a charm.

Worth the money? Yes, even though they are expensive.
